Tuesday.................moving south toward Hilton Head and Georgia
Today was a good cruise day as we exceeded our goal of 75 miles and logged 85 miles for 8 hours of cruising. The goal for today was to get an early start and cruise as many miles as we can get during daylight. Leaving the city at 7:00 we had one beautiful ride of very windy rivers with dolphins jumping in front of the boat and shrimpers dragging their nets. As we passed Parris Island we saw marine jets either doing bombing runs or practicing landing and takeoffs for about 40 minutes. Finally we ended our day anchoring at Skull Island. Yikes....wonder why they call it "skull island". It was getting late, seas were getting rough, and the weather was deteriorating. Our options were limited, so we tucked in a protected area to anchor for the night. We set the anchor just in time when the rain arrived. Carol steamed the shrimp we got from the fresh sea food distributor in Beaufort and we had another fine dinner. It's now about 8:00 and time for me to hit the sack so we can have another long day racking up more miles. Before retiring for the night, I checked the anchor to make sure it was holding as expected. The winds are strong tonight, so for precaution we set a second anchor. Hoping to arrive in Savannah Georgia by afternoon tomorrow before the next storm hits the area.
