Left beautiful Mobjack Bay for the ICW. We planned to use the Dismal Swamp route as many cruisers have written that you must travel "the Ditch" at least once. It is a small canal made by George Washington and others. We arrive at Mile Marker 1 of the ICW in Norfolk. We stopped at the Deep Creek lock at 3:20 just 10 minutes before it closed. I informed the Lock master that I was a rookie and had never been in a lock. He informed me that as long as we listened and performed his instructions we and the boat would be fine...he was telling the truth. It is amazing how this lock picked our boat and then opened the gates and we drove our boat now 8' higher than 10 minutes ago. The Dock master invited us for breakfast tomorrow at 7:45 before we head to Elizabeth City 40 miles down the Dismal Swamp.
